Ma Maison de à St. Lyonn' Print

This is painting that I was commissioned to do a few years ago of a large estate in Atlanta, GA. I used a grid technique to replicate the exact proportions of the home from a photo onto the larger canvas. I used a layering technique of putting warm colors on top of cool colors and cool on top of warm as well as complimentary colors on top of one another to produce the desired effect of the roof tiles as well as the rock around the front door and windows. The foreground flowers were painted individually and the foreground grass was painted with a warm brown on top of the cooler viridian to keep the foreground shadows from being too cool and create a subtle vibration. I loved the way the sharp edges of the roof were complimented by the soft, puffy clouds, as well as the softer edges of the foliage on the left. Strong sun light is coming from the upper right side resulting in a yellowish purple driveway in the foreground and receding to a purplish gray closer to the house. This was a challenging painting because of the detail, but I loved the end result.
