Magic Hour - Sunset Beach, Oahu, Hawaii Print

My work for the past 40 years has been inspired by my love of surfing, nature and the ocean. This particular digital painting was inspired by a photo I shot on Sunset Beach, on the N. Shore of Oahu, in the winter of 1989/1990. It was such a spectacular sunset. The entire beach was glowing in this magical warm light. Sunset Beach is a very special place on the planet. Since I started coming to the N. Shore of Oahu in the winter of 1980/1981 the locals have fiercely protected the N. Shores county acreage to as the locals say "Keep the Country, Country". They have done a magnificent job. If you pull up to the parking lot at Sunset Beach today in 2015 it looks nearly identical to the beach I first saw in 1980 minus a few surf shops and stores like Kammie's Market and the Sunset Beach Surf shop that was right next door. Kua Aina burger went corporate and the burger no longer have that special taste from the seasoned grill. Rosies Mexican t=restaurant also shut down but the beaches and waves remain the same. It's only the players that change. Except maybe if you're 11 time world Champion surfer Kelly Slater who's still surfing as good or better than he did in the mid 1980's. I shot this photo in the late afternoon on a winter day at Sunset in 1990 on the N. Shore of Oahu. The pro tour and the hoards of pro surfers were long gone. I painted it using the original 35mm film file, scanned it and then using a digital airbrush and other photo art techniques I employ I created the image. I shoot my images on both 35mm slide film and digitally. I output the original artwork to either canvas or aluminum and then add acrylic paint at that time when I deem the image demands it. Acrylic paint is added to some of my pieces to highlight certain areas. This painting does not have the acrylic paint added. This particular piece was finished on 12/4/15 and the original has not been printed to either canvas or aluminum yet. Shipping for the original will depend on the weight of the image and where it is being shipped in the world. So the shipping details below are just a guesstimate. The file size for the original art piece is 40" x 60". I can make it larger but the list price will increase accordingly. It can be printed on either Aluminum or Canvas as a Giclee.
