About The Artwork

Acrylic on canvas, stretched and ready to hang. Signed on the front. This painting is from the group of ( mostly portraits ) called "Bizarre Harmony". Loosely based on one of artist's earlier watercolour on paper, exploring part of a human mind which is subconscious. Title was borrowed from quite famous Dali's painting. Dali and Freud met on 19 July 1938 at Freud’s home in London. Dali showed him Metamorphosis of Narcissus. He hoped his painting would win him Freud’s approval. Freud apparently commented that “in classic paintings I look for the unconscious, but in your paintings I look for the conscious,” which Dalí took to be a criticism. This painting is about that meeting. Painted on 12 oz , triple primed stretched linen . Matisse acrylic paint. Protected with Krylon archival quality satin varnish. Ready for the wall.

Born in Croatia in 1958, Tony Belobrajdic is a Sydney based figurative artist. He started exhibiting in the late seventies and had his first solo show in 1983 in Croatia. Tony moved to New York in 1987 where he continued his art practice. He exhibits both in Sydney and Europe regularly. Acrylics, watercolours and oils have been the mediums of choice. Etchings is the latest medium being explored and studied with a great passion. His style could be described as contemporary impressionism, mostly portraits and figures. Tony's artwork demonstrates distinct freedom using spontaneous brushstrokes and vivid colours. He combines layered figuration of human forms put in abstract situations.
