About The Artwork

September 11, 2001 was the last day I tried to show up at the formal job in downtown NY. My subway ride destination was World Trade Center, as usual. Gallery I was going to was just two blocks from there. The train I would catch was already approaching the station and I should have run if wanted to board, but something inside was rebelling against it so I let the train pass, even if it meant to be late. I got next train. The ride was unusually slow when we started to approach the World Trade Centre stop. Train platform was just under the towering building we all know well now and commemorate today. Train was stopped before entering the station. We waited for long time without any explanation and after 1/2 h voice over intercom started repeating that we are held because an incident at the WTC. It seemed it must be something very serious. After 45 min of waiting, the train pulled back to Canal St where we were told to leave the train and station. Out on the street mass of distressed, confused and shocked people was walking uptown toward us with words of attack, bombing etc. Nobody knew what really happened except that buildings are struck. Cellphones didn't work neither pay phones on the street. We would hear broadcasting from car radios with conflicting comments. We all walked uptown for hours as all exits from Manhattan were closed until after noon. The train ahead, which I didn't board was crushed under collapsing building. I'm not running after that to catch trains, busses or anything of that sort. Painted on NYC Subway MetroCard and mounted floating on custom build frame 8"×10" (20×25 cm). Painting is credit card size, 2"x3". D-ring hook mounted in the back for hanging.
