About The Artwork

This work is inspired by the ancient mythical birthplace of the Arthurian legend and the novel depicting that period. This is the second in the series. I have attempted to portray the misty quality of that legendary and mysterious land. The image is very atmospheric and ethereal allowing viewers to interpret for themselves if this is stormy or peaceful setting. The work consists of over 50 layers of thinly applied layers of glazed colors and then finished with multiple coating of protective varnish which enhances the subtle colors. The sides of the work are also painted to create a seamless view from all angles.

Toronto based artist The manner in which certain colors resonate with each other when placed on or near each other reminds me of musical harmonies that are listened to as one blended and immersive aural experience even though the sound is comprised of separate notes. When harmoniously combined, colors pulsate in a blended and beautifully ambiguous manner so that the eye does not want to distinguish between the colors in the same manner our ears do not want to distinguish the individual musical notes laced in harmony, rather we prefer to take in the experience as a cohesive whole. This use of color combined with the simplicity of color field forms creates a reminiscence of horizons in nature especially those that occur in seascapes.
