Ian Clark is a California artist who began his career studying at school in Vermont. Twenty seven years ago he moved to Vail, Colorado to enjoy the lifestyle this region has to offer. After acquainting himself with the natural environment, he developed a deep appreciation for the boundless beauty to be found in the Colorado Rockies. In 2018 , Ian and his family settled in the San Francisco Bay Area where his wife’s family is from. It is here where Ian continues to hone his skills engaging in the California Landscape. Through his painting he seeks to evoke the same emotion in his viewer that he feels from his Mountain And Ocean going experiences. With his textural brush strokes and choice of color he expresses beautifully the moods which accompany his Landscapes. Ian is constantly exploring his medium in order to give expression to his subject matter. He is particularly interested in capturing the light of each location and working as a Plein Air painter allows him to translate the ambiance directly onto the canvas. Most influential on Ian's painting career have been his mentors Don Sahli, a noted American painter, and Ovanes Berbarian. Closely associated with the Russian School of Art, these mentors passed down their skills and ideas from a long line of master painters, and opened up a new world of seeing for Ian.He continues to thrive from working with other contemporary masters-most recently sharing thoughts and techniques with Colorado artist Susie Hyer and her hierarchy of amazing artists in Denver. Ian has studied at the Art Students League Of Denver and taking up classes with Doug Dawson and Kim English. Ian has sold art to private collectors and Universities. Ian sold Art at the Vail Farmers Market and Art show for several years where he built a solid clientele base. His paintings have sold in Taos , N.M. at, "A Russian Night Out" benefiting the Fechin museum. In 2005 Ian Clark won a National Merit Award at the Steamboat Art Competition, and in 2008 was excepted into the Estes Park Plein Air painting competition ,receiving a third place merit award and in 2018 won third place at Monterey Council’s painted journeys. Ian's paintings Have been represented in galleries and collected by a strong following who love Ian's paintings as much as he does. Ian was recently excepted into the 2021 Frank Bette’s Plein Air Paint Out in Alameda, Ca.
