ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I traveled to Mykonos a few years ago with my youngest daughter. Though we were only there for a day (a stop on a cruise) I imagined what it would be like to stay longer on the island, live a bohemian life. I imagined myself venturing out for a coffee in the winding streets just after sunrise. The table and chairs were from a photo -- the morning light and the colors are inspiration from my day dream.

Wendy Kornfield is an award winning watercolor artist who lives in Miami, Florida. She exhibits regularly in juried exhibitions locally and nationally. Growing up, she painted, drew and did needlework. She has always looked for ways to express feelings and messages visually. She graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1980, and spent over 35 years working as a graphic designer in London, New York and Miami. As her career in graphic design evolved, Wendy found it to be too tech and computer intensive, and missed her childhood days of pure visual expression using her eyes and hands. In her watercolor works, Wendy loves the vibrancy of transparent watercolor. She also enjoys the unexpected surprises that occur when applying and mixing paint. Her works tell stories and try to describe life’s everyday emotions and experiences. Her camera and her computer are an essential part of Wendy’s creative process. After she has the manipulated computer image, she does a series on small painted studies where color, line and composition break her message down to a purer form. Wendy is a Signature member of the Miami Watercolor Society, and was featured in the 2018 Florida Watercolor Society Online show. Her work has also been shown by the Arts Council of Martin County Florida, and at Fairchild Tropical Gardens.
