This painting is part of my Idi Ori series, about chilldren who are often overlooked by the rest of the world. The title Nkan Ti Oju Mi Ri, can be translated to mean "the things my eyes have seen." It is a study of how we negotiate boundaries and exclusion in our everyday life. It leans on a little mystery and yet intends to draw you in.

I use Yoruba principles of art in my work. Some are Ona (the embellishment of form), Ara (creativity), Ere (improvisation), pipe (completeness) and tutu (coolness). I draw inspiration from the work of the 1960s Bay Area figurative expressionists (Diebenkorn, Oliveira, Brown, Wonner, Bischoff, Park etc) as well as Henri Matisse and Mark Rothko.
