ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I was studying minimalism and I am fascinated with nudes. The canvas size was the culprit and the inspiration for this work. Painting a canvas this size became a physical challenge. Lifting and turning and working on this nude started as a black and white piece. I couldn't get it right. I added color, pointillism, slashes of bold colors and just moving this canvas on my easel, I found myself fighting with the image. I finally capitulated and in a fit added the black in 4 paint strokes. I sprayed water on the canvas and on my face and declared "I'm Done!" I think the painting won the argument.

All of my life I've worked in some form of "show biz"..I acted, sang, danced, mimed, comedy improvised, radio broadcaster, television talk show host, wrote plays, sketches, screenplays, and produced movies, but I never attempted to paint. I was good at drawing cartoons, but never seriously touched a brush to a blank canvas. My cousin, Andy Warhol was the painter in the family and lets face it, how could I compete? We shared a love of Art Deco pottery, especially the "orange " color and in his house on Lexington Ave, I was never sure what was art and what was not. Anyway, I picked up a paint brush with sincerity almost 3 years ago, and now I cannot stop. I know I started a little late, (I'll be 72 in March 2022) but I'm now an addict who will not be attending rehab....at least not for my art addiction. Jury still out on everything else!
