About The Artwork

I like the idea of people building stories around the subjects in my paintings. Or placing themselves in the painting as the subject themselves. This is partly why I paint a lot of people from behind - it's much easier to imagine yourself as them, to put yourself in the painting. I also love how water can be represented in so many different ways. How one simple thing can look a thousand different ways.

J A C Bezer is an English artist based in Barcelona, Spain. Self-taught, his interests lie in portraiture, figurative, and abstract painting. In his figurative paintings his main intention is to focus on the individuality of the subjects, which are almost always painted alone and outside of any wider context. This encourages you to imagine and build a story around the subjects, something Joe finds himself doing as he is painting them. Having always enjoyed reading and writing fiction, the idea of creating characters is important to him and central to his work. His current approach in his abstract work involves building layers of paint and colour to include a depth and a richness in his paintings that isn’t always immediately apparent in their fairly simple compositions. This richness includes variation in colour, texture, hue, chroma and saturation and how they all interact and “dance” with each other. It is important to him that you can always see something new every time you look at one of these paintings. He divides his time teaching, painting originals and working on commissions.
