About The Artwork

A second, larger version of Palazzo Reflection #1 with a varied emphasis in composition and color In Italy I was entranced by the beautiful palazzo gardens. A reflection of cypress trees in a pond inspired me. I love cypress trees (mediterranean and Middle Eastern "trees of life") with their deep green spires. They are exclamation points in a landscape. In this painting the cypress tree reflections are fragmented by the motion of the water. I apply multiple layers of colors with my palette knife to suggest the movement of the water and its reflections. Autumnal waterlilies add swaths of orange and pink to contrast against the cool blues of the water. A reflection of the Palazzo is visible in the upper right. This painting is highly textured, with heavy applications of oil paint. The painting is on un-stretched primed canvas. Because I paint to the trimmed edges of the canvas, I recommend the painting be mounted in a floating frame so the entire painting is visible.

After years as a medical artist producing anatomical illustrations, I am now a fine artist. I create sensitively nuanced paintings and drawings in a semi-abstract, semi-realistic style with vivid unexpected color. My paintings celebrate subtle shifts in light and emotion often overlooked in our busy lives. I do not follow art trends, nor a singular style because I am constantly experimenting. I feel experimentation is essential to my creativity. This way my paintings are unique and one of a kind. Raised in New Jersey, I live near Chicago.
