The Pieta is an image of the virgin holding the dead body of Christ mourning his lifeless frame as she cradles him and weeps over his suffering. Painting is my obsession. The desire to create images and concepts of a different world are coming from a source through me that I cannot explain. Through the years I remember even as a child a need to paint and draw in order to visualize my dreams. The images that I create now are an extension of my interests in Latin American magical realism, surrealism, and religious iconography. I fabricate gods, new religious deities, magical dressmakers, and mannerist angels. All of these figures are dwellers within the imagination that I have carried for a very long time and are my friends, companions, and iconic symbols to my inner world. In many ways it could be said that my work is an anti reality, a break from the facts. It is also my way of being an anti modernist, embracing religion, traditions, and exercising my hopelessly romantic obsessions.
