In late December 2025, I saw the devil. When he walked in front of me, I saw his horns—bloody, sharp, undeniable. I felt as if he was bathing in my blood, enjoying my collapse. I was emotionally bleeding, and he showed no care. While I was falling apart, he seemed to take pleasure in my suffering. ...

Fatima Abdolhamid (Fateme Ostad Abdolhamid) is an Iranian visual artist and author whose work explores psychological states, consciousness, and inner fragmentation. Working across painting and writing, her practice focuses on mental tension, alienation, and the experience of remaining aware during periods of personal and social instability. As a writer, she is known for her work in science fiction, dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and magic realism genres. Her narratives are often non-linear and symbolic, examining inner conflict, resilience, and the search for meaning in hostile or uncertain environments. Her first novel, The Shepherd’s Palace, is available in Farsi and English outside of Iran. Political and cultural censorship in Iran led to the banning of her books, prompting her to continue publishing and exhibiting her work internationally. Across both writing and visual art, her approach remains direct and unsentimental, prioritizing psychological truth over comfort or convention. Her paintings, primarily in oil on canvas, translate these same concerns into figurative and abstract forms. Faces and bodies function not as portraits, but as representations of mental conditions—states of forced awareness, exhaustion, and endurance. Her work is deeply personal, yet intentionally open, inviting viewers to recognize their own psychological reflections within it.
