What drives me is the painting process, the moulding and manipulating. Creating something from nothing and probably the high I get from the flow. Imperfect, I don't seek realism or perfection, but rather a catalyst that will begin a dialogue between artist, painting and viewer. My paintings are my emotional and intuitive response to the natural world - my immediate response on that day at that moment. I use the subject and the light as a vehicle to express my self through the use of colour and mark making. Proudly South African, I am warmed by the majesty of the land, her people, with strong cultures and traditions, I am intrigued by daily encounters and experiences, drawn to paint "the stories" I am fortunate to witness.
