Kyle Roberts (b. 1992, Bangor, Wales) In this current series of watercolour paintings I revisit canonical sculptures from antiquity and the Renaissance. The work engages with traditions of observation and repetition as ways of learning and self-reflection. By translating these statues into delicate washes of pigment, I explore the tension between reverence and irony, between the idealized image and its endless reproduction. The result is a meditation on history, authorship, and the persistence of beauty as both cultural symbol and commodity.
