Gretchen Kish is a modern painter working out of her studio in San Francisco, California. Her paintings have been featured in exhibits, shows, magazines, books and catalogs in the US and Europe Her work explores our experience of the natural environment across time scales: and our spontaneous, conscious and unconscious response to sensing our place within even larger and more unfathomable systems. "My work explores the geophysical natural environment we inhabit, as well the beauty, vulnerability, and isolation we experience within our small pocket of our seemingly infinite universe. Our views of time, both the immediate and personal experience of time, as well as deep time, in geological and cosmology are an important context of this work. This is how I approach an exploration and understanding of the primary question, the nature of true reality across time and space." 'I often begin with found imagery - my own wilderness photography in most cases, and then subject the images to various acts of recombination, system sensing and interpretation, and then translation. The resulting paintings invite the viewer to engage in an active process of viewing, sensing, feeling, interpreting, engaging and re-experiencing our place in the universal schematic.'
