‘‘Sensuous Embrace #2’’, 40 ins. x 30 ins., Acrylic on Canvas, 2015, by Nigerian artist, Sir Mbonu Christopher Emerem, is a spontaneous eruptions of the artist's artistic expressions that are disciplined, awakening and disturbing visions of the future of mankind as well as visual testimonies to the realities of our human race. In this an angst-ridden world, whose great expectations have faded, can be smoldering and choking on soft-coal fumes and immobilized by the clutter of failures. To better our world, we should strip ourselves of greed, hatred, envy, pride, arrogance, jealousy, extremism, etc. With generous spirits in all our daily endeavors and strives to achieve excellence and extraordinary contributions to mankind, we should, in our sensuous embrace, integrate and not lose sight of shared values of kindness, tolerance, diversity, bravery, generosity and liberty. Sensuous embrace is telling us that, despite the anxieties and resentments facing the discontented or disenchanted, we should try to replace our physical shabbiness with at least palpable degrees of psychic gloom that will enliven ourselves and our environments. We should try to embrace some positive changes that will add values to our lives . The complicated effects of the world in which our political, social, economic, religious, cultural, ideological views and believes are polarized, they breed all forms of tensions all over the world. Right from the time of creations, through the fall of man till the present time, the human race has been facing a lot of problems as a result of man’s inhumanity to man, our urgent desires to own and rule the whole world, have all resulted into bizarre and polarized world. Those who have not seen or witnessed wars are looking for wars at all costs and means. Those who have never seen disunity have been looking for it, etc, As long as we are living in this world, we cannot insulate ourselves from or close our eyes to the realities of the world as we encounter them on daily bases. Apart from the natural disasters, almost the rests of human problems are products or by-products of man’s inhumanity to man. Instead of sensuously embracing vanities upon vanities, we should, for the benefits of mankind, sensuously embrace profound interests in love, emancipation of mankind and environmental issues for our planet’s future. Since our lives greatly depend on our environments, then living and working together for our common goods, great efforts should be put in place to protect the environment. In so doing, we are helping to send across worldwide and heart-warming messages into the future and at the same time communicating Earth’s fragile beauty to the coming generations. Also, to freely choose and criticize our leaders, to make our economic decisions, etc, will sensuously elevate the status of mankind. In addition, we can turn our faces to the future when the dreams of unity and freedom are achieved. As a matter of fact, if you are determined to introduce positive changes, you should simply embrace those things with all your capacity, strength, and sagacity, faith, hope, and confidence, stem tenacity and neither cold, poverty, famine, and leanness, nor sickness, pains of body or brain can stop you from achieving your goals. The positive changes will be realized only if you are dogged and grim then you can besiege and beset it. In similar manner, sensuous embrace is reminding and cautioning mankind that, as sojourners in transit here on planet earth, to be mindful of our earthly pursuits, of those things we feel very strongly about, that we cannot do without, go without and live without, but eventually depart from the earth to the great beyond without even one of those things because those things are not needed at the end of life and for the main and great journey beyond after death. Never give priority to wealth accumulations over your own health, happiness, sleep and peace of mind. For the obvious facts that none of these worldly acquisitions are left behind or abandoned here on earth not minding or caring in whose possessions they are in. Not even one of those things follows or joins mankind once death comes. As experiences have constantly shown on daily bases, right from the time of creation till today, that even during burials, those earthly acquisitions don’t follow mankind to the grave and heaven. So our sensuous embrace should be sensible and not carnal. It is very unfortunate for mankind that all those things that we were desirously longing for as if there will be no tomorrow, working very hard day and night to have them, those things that make you crazy enough that you are ready to eliminate other people’s lives or every other thing because we need that particular thing badly enough and hold all other things worthless and cheap for it, that make life seem all empty and useless without.
