At a very young age Heidi Cole Stanfield had lived in five different countries of the world including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland and Sweden and had traversed the United States with her family to experience life on the Pacific shores of Hawaii and California, the mountains of Utah, the hills of Texas, a small town in the Ohio mid-west, and to enjoy the rural as well as the city life of the east coast states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York. Now located in Austin, Texas where she joins her two sons, also in the arts, Heidi continues to paint, sculpt and create, and is planning on staying in one place for a long time. My artistic work encompasses the many insights and themes created by my life, many doors leading to otherness - places, thoughts, perspectives, awareness, times, opportunities, losses, lives, meanings. The principle intellectual and psychological interest for me is the dichotomy of the human mind and spirit; the back and forth bi polar energy that pulls us between good and bad, emotion and intellect, selfishness and selflessness, etc. This energy infuses everything we see and experience in our world from our politics to religion to money to personal relationships. . My paintings are meant to be contemplative, luring the viewer to think and explore. I am challenging them to look deeper, to question more, and to engage in meaningful dialogue with all of the cues they have been able to bring forth from their own experiences. I wish to create a dynamic through curiosity, making the visual experience encompass a level of recognition and mystery.
