About The Artwork

Something Vital Something New - Banksia baxteri, Gumnuts and Leucadendron By HSIN LIN 05/10/2020 Artist Acrylic on Premium quality triple primed gesso canvas. Signed at front and ready to hang. 91.4 x 60.9 x 3.5 cm Artwork painted extend to side panels. Affirmation – Sometimes bitter trials in life are good things in disguise. Banksia is one of my favourite objects to study, to paint and I especially love the spiritual meaning of it. Some species of Banksia protect their seeds inside follicles while simultaneously opening up when experiencing fire. It reminds me that we shall never give up no matter what kind of difficulty we encounter in life. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Banksia symbolizes rebirth and new beginnings. Banksia baxteri, member of the family Proteaceae, also known as 'Baxter's Banksia' and 'Bird's Nest Banksia'- endemic to Western Australia. Flowering occurs mid-Summer to Autumn continue until well into May. Gumnut stands for healing and protection. The term eucalypt originally meaning well (eu) covered (calyptos). Leucadendron, native to Australia, are often used to convey an appreciation for simplicity in life. The blossoms are uncomplicated and have a simple appearance to them. They may be used alone or paired with dark green foliage for bouquets. Simple beauty is one of the most popular meanings for this bloom. HSIN LIN, Award-winning Artist based in Melbourne, Australia. In Hsin Lin’s ongoing, signature contemporary floral series that feature native and common flowers we know, flowers represent life and each different type of flower has a unique symbolic meaning. Lin is inspired by her close observation of the natural world. Through a process of careful looking Lin is able to capture an incredible amount of intricate detail. To create the larger-scale work, Lin normally spends 6-12 months developing the intricate composition. The fine details such as the tiny petals have been developed through ten or more layers of paint. Lin describes that ‘although still-life is considered a traditional genre, each object in the paintings stands for a different meaning and has its own story. Flowers represent us as humans, vases represent the body carrying our soul, protecting us like a shield. The weaving basket stands for connections—the bonds between families, friends and all the people around us. Even if you are apart, everyone is still being linked together as a whole and we are stronger together.’ Lin’s paintings, a series of flowers in full bloom, remind us that we are alive and that life is vibrant, blossoming and full of potential.
