This painting expresses an overlay/overlapping of realms, and life comes into the dense. It is about looking back to where we came from in the spirit realm. I had to work with how to develop the painting because sand effects the behavior and feel of paint. I had to decide should it be facial features or a mask using non-gendered features. The bodies are covered in energy corresponding to the fire’s energy. The circles on the ground work to open vertical space, they represent spatial expression and metrons of influence. We are to find the fire again and start there. I hope the viewer will experience the flame of fire that they can dance with and the realms it opens. One realm represented life with yellows and fire. The spirit inside is like glory. I use red, pink, and purples. Each overlap a color. It’s a play with logical conclusions. It is dance that opens the space/realm. This room is represented with earth tones and has to do with matter or the outside. I selected painting on a sand-covered canvas as a challenge and experiment connecting the earth element to art. My goal was mark making and maturing as I partnered with earth. During this painting I learned two things, “it doesn’t matter” and to “let go of the attachment.” Were these two beings the first to figure out paint? The painting is applied on traditional canvas and stretchers. Frame and hanging hardware are not included.

Paper bag sketches – this is where it all began for Jason. His first drawings found themselves on cut up brown paper bags, carefully cut into squares by his mother. Jason would soon become a known child prodigy in Kentucky and attend the state’s prestigious Governor’s School for the Arts as a teen. Now at 47, the emerging artist approaches a blank canvas with meditative mindfulness to create a spiritual flow in his pieces. It is what Jason calls a ‘divine dance.’ Using acrylic paint as his base, he mixes dance, drawing, painting, airbrush, typography and graphic design principles to express an interplay of multiple layers and textures.
