ARTIST STATEMENT “I believe in fearless, honest and subtle expressionism to celebrate the power of emotions” Painting has always been the way in which I express myself; show the world what I see and what I feel. Oddly, I feel more at ease expressing the deepest layer of my thoughts through paintings than through words. As an artist based in the United Arab Emirates & India and being a true wanderlust at heart, I have had the pleasure to meet and interact with many people with differing thoughts, opinions, beliefs and faith. It is this exposure coupled with my own thoughts and ideas that I express through colors in my paintings. For this exhibition, I wish to celebrate the power of freedom and choice. Particularly, my thought on Feminism, Race, Stereotypes and the Ideal World is depicted through my paintings. It’s your choice now to perceive it the way you want. About Gomathi Shiva, a child hood art enthusiast and an adventurist, created a few portrait paintings as early as from the age of 5. Having moved various countries in the Gulf from Oman to UAE, Qatar and back in UAE, Gomathi had been capturing quite a few interesting facets of life and associated cultures in the Region. Her paintings are influenced by Art, Culture, Nature, and Portraits & Portfolios bringing life and emotions in the paintings. Gomathi has been doing customized paintings as required to suit the needs of the Customers/Art enthusiasts. Pencil sketches, paintings portfolio pictures, creative paintings from photographs are her forte apart from her own imaginations. Gomathi is an expert in making custom made paintings as well and many of her recent works are few of the many work she had carried out. With insatiable appetite for Lights, Shades, Colors & Nature, her attention to even minutest of the details are her Forte. Pious by nature and upbringing, she has a passion in pursuing her interest further. As it is a Universal fact, Everyday is a learning process; Gomathi acquires and enhances her skills through various sources. Some of her works include varied themes; Nature, Wildlife, Culture depicting emotions and feelings. The paintings are Oil on Canvas, Acrylic, and Water color besides, she also carries out portraits using Charcoal and pencil sketches.
