Bright colors and neon signs are a prominent feature of my paintings. In this series the neon lights are the sole compositional elements, the lights are rendered photorealistically, yet as the only compositional elements their abstract qualities are emphasized. I am an oil painter who captures the beauty of the ordinary. I am drawn to the colors, shapes, and textures of the world around us. My paintings of life, and of objects past and present, highlight our individuality, connectedness, and impermanence, as well as the beauty of the ordinary, encouraging us to be present to our surroundings. The interplay of shadow and light; large planes and angles, and movement, serve to remind us that there is always an alternative perspective to consider. My past experience of thirty years with ceramic sculpture, murals, and pottery inform my paintings of today through movement and texture. I have launched two new series of paintings. A Neon series to complement my realist work, in which I select and highlight the abstract elements of a realist subject, thereby creating an abstract composition. The second new series, "The Other Brick Road" features the characters of Oz in a light-hearted exploration of the Land of Oz and our contemporary world including the art world. I find experimentation and exploration of different subjects to be an important part of my artistic journey and growth. Instagram: Facebook: Webpage:
