The Amber Palace Print

Standing atop a hill, next to the Maota Lake, this 400 year old fort is a glistening scene of gold and red. As you walk through the old sandstone and marble arches, the bright Indian sun lights up the beautifully blended Hindu and Muslim architecture. I vividly remember leaving the main corridor for tourists, climbing some steps and turning a corner to this view. They were leaning out of a window, taking a break from sweeping the dusty sandstone. The vibrant yellow and red of their sarees wouldn’t have been misplaced amongst the generations of Rajput Maharajas that occupied the fort. Yet, like so much of India, their beauty seemed untouched by time. Predominantly, acrylic on a panel canvas, the reflective gold paint and foil illuminate different parts of the scene as the sun travels across it during the day. No hanging hardware is included.
