This abstract geometric painting is a study on form, symmetry and repetition and the composition is centralized around a mathematically plotted grid. I use the fluid shape of the circle to challenge the rigid order of the base grid. This painting is very much inspired by humans’ desire for simplicit...

Sabrina Brouwers is a contemporary abstract artist whose work explores the relationship between architecture, urban space, and human perception. Inspired by principles of design and the visual language of the built environment, her practice produces minimalist geometric abstract paintings that reflect the structured order of the urban landscape. Working with elementary architectural forms, industrial materials, and restrained colour palettes, Sabrina creates non-objective compositions rooted in a mathematically plotted grid system that forms the underlying structure of each painting. This grid references the ordered frameworks that shape modern cities, infrastructure, and constructed space. Through layered processes that combine intuition and strategy, the artist disrupts this rigid system. Surfaces are built through successive applications of material, creating a tension between control and spontaneity. The resulting contemporary abstract paintings explore the psychological effects of visual simplicity and spatial balance. At the centre of the work is an investigation into the relationship between human presence and architectural space. Within the stark geometry of the compositions, subtle shifts in colour, texture, and form introduce an element of anima. Juxtapositions of tones suggestive of industrial architecture, labour, and flesh create a dialogue between the constructed environment and lived human experience. By challenging the stability of the underlying grid, Sabrina’s practice explores the dynamic interplay between order and disruption, emergence and disappearance, reflecting the complex relationship between the body and the spaces we inhabit. Sabrina has an interesting background, having grown up between different countries before studying a bachelors in fine art at Falmouth University in 2019. She has since developed her style of geometric abstract painting, studying a postgraduate diploma in graphic design at the University of Art in London. Sabrina now works as both an artist and a graphic designer, and the influence of these two differing disciplines is clear to see throughout her paintings.
