-Wander José de Melo (1962-) Born in the municipality of Rondonópolis, state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. Self-taught plastic artist who represents the art of his home state. He joins art galeries events as well as individual and collective exhibitions in several states in Brazil. His main theme expresses concern towards social and ecological issues, portraying scenes of the Pantanal mato-grossense fauna and flora. He also registers everyday themes and historical facts of the Brazilian Midwest. As he paints forms that get distorted once they show intense sinuosity and vibration, he proposes a lot of rhythms that end up deconstructing and rebuilding the figuration represented in vibrant tones and colors. He has pieces in the Gilberto Chateubriand collection, at MAM (Modern Art Museum), in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, one of the largest art collections in Latin America. -Laudenir Antonio Gonçalves, PhD Professor at the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT) member of the Brazilian Art Critics Association (ABCA)
