ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Whilst map reading for walks I found that a lot of the villages around Milton Keynes in Bedfordshire (England) had names that seemed to sound like real characters. I then imagined an image of a character with that name eg. Milton Ernest and set them up in a scene for a horticultural show with the local vicar (another village name) giving out prizes I hope the viewer will find the result amusing. Acrylic suits my "naive" style.

I was born in North London, on 8th January 1945, the last of seven children. My chosen profession was Civil Engineering . The direction of my education took me away from art as a subject, however I never lost my interest and in my mid 50s I began painting as a hobby, initially in the Naive style but later experimenting with different styles and subjects. The Naive style of painting came quite naturally to me. I found that I could produce pleasing images which create a different reality to conventional academic art, allowing complete freedom to tell a story without following the normal rules relating to colour, scale or perspective. These paintings often combine a mix of nostalgia and humour and can best be described as Quirky. Later works have included a series of Art Deco fashion images, several still life images (inc. venetian masks), several solarised nudes and finally a whole series of Iconic portraits in black and white. Since the illegal invasion of Ukraine I have been selling all my original paintings for a charity that supports the people suffering as a result of the war. I have set up a website to sell my entire collection. These can be viewed and further details on the charity can be found on:
