The Miracle of Divine Protection Print

This painting represents my Catholic origins. I had the honor of participating in the Second Biennial of Muralism and Public Art in Cali, Colombia in 2014 with this mural. The Colombian government invited me, along with 34 other international artists, to be a part of this cultural project as an initiative to incorporate art throughout the city. I participated on behalf of Mexico, my country of origin. By way of this mural, my intention is to be able to unify two different cultures: the Colombian and the Mexican. This unity is portrayed throughout the entire mural; in the center, the two hands forming a heart, on the right side you can see different elements and icons that represent each country. Peace and harmony are depicted in the rose, the star, our Lady of Guadalupe, planet Earth and the birds. These were drawn in the form of tessellation, something also found in almost all of my artwork. On the left side of the mural I included a poem written by my father, Jorge Azar, RIP, titled “La Libertad de la Flor”/“The Flower’s Freedom” where you can also appreciate my art style, Toonymania, not only in the way i wrote the words but also in the flowers below the poem. This poem speaks of the freedom we as humans have on our own personal decisions as well as the political ones in relation to the freedom that a flower has to grow upward, from the earth to the sun.
