The rain falls, the reflections ripple, but her step is certain. Oil on canvas — a painting about the particular kind of courage that looks like an...

Anatolii Klymko is a Ukrainian painter living and working on the island of Ibiza, Spain. He has been painting in oils since 2014, and his work carries two landscapes inside it at once: the memory of Ukraine — its winters, its open fields, its particular quality of longing — and the light of the Mediterranean, where he has made his home. These two worlds continue to speak through each other in everything he paints. His paintings move freely between lyrical realism, symbolic surrealism, and expressive abstraction. What holds them together is a sustained obsession with light as event rather than atmosphere: the moment a blizzard breaks open over ancient stone, the second a field of poppies catches fire, the underwater ray that tells you the surface is close, the lamplight that turns wet cobblestones to gold. He is interested in the threshold — the instant before or after something changes — and in the particular emotions that have no single name. His subjects range widely: figures walking alone through rain, lovers under one umbrella, white horses breaking through fire, children in autumn parks, surfers at the edge of the Mediterranean, flowers mid-storm, women rising from underwater wrecks. The geography is equally wide — Ukraine, Venice, Ibiza, the Costa Dorada — but the gaze is always the same: close attention, obvious feeling, and a painter's understanding that light is never just light. Before dedicating himself fully to painting, Anatoliy spent 25 years as a senior business leader in Ukraine. More than half of his paintings have sold to private collectors across USA, Europe and Ukraine. He accepts commissions for portraits of people, animals, places, and interiors — and brings to each commission the same quality of attention he gives his own work.
