Marcos Rey is a painter born in Spain in 1978, Arequipean by adoption. His formation is autodidact. He has been dedicating himself exclusively to his artwork for over 10 years, most of the time, working in his studio in Arequipa city, where he could evolve from his technique such as in his particular way of understanding the painting. His apprenticeship is constant and nurtures above all, from old Masters and contemporary artists he admires, studying his artwork and understanding the processes of each one of them. His references had been changing through the years, parallel to his artistic progression. Actually they are Rembrandt, Michaël Borremans, Villhelm Hammershøi, Nicola Samori, Odd Nerdrum, Golucho, Felipe Alonso, and a long list of realists masters from the end of XIX. Thanks to collectors, galleries museums and competitions, his work has been able to be seen in countries such as, Japan, France, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, Morroco, USA, Canada, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. Standing out above all, 3 of his drawings being a part of the MEAM (European Museum of Modern Art), of Barcelona. He has earn several international, drawing and painting Awards. Among them, being a Finalist in the “Figurativas” Contest, organized by the “Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes” from Barcelona, and 2 Honorable Mentions in the “Modportrait” contest organized by the “Galeria Artelibre” and the “Fundació de les Arts i els Artistes” from Spain.
