About The Artwork

This painting is a part of the "An Afternoon at the Museum" series. The series features a slice of life, a "moment" in a museum. This painting is based on my first-hand experience after spending hours at the National Gallery in front of the The Fighting Temeraire by J.M.W Turner. People visit the art gallery for various reasons, some for the love of an artists while others for the famous art pieces. Some people visit for inspiration, while others come for people watching. Hours spent in these galleries have inspired me to capture these moments. Oil painting on canvas is one of the great classic media, it has been used by some of the greatest painters for hundreds of years and have stood the test of time with great durability and steadfast color.

Between 1992 and 2011 more than 30 of his paintings have been collected by Vancouverites. His paintings uncover the poetic, honest and ideal side of ordinary life. Known for his European classical style of paintings, consisting primarily of portraits and landscapes, Chen has created a coveted collection of paintings that have received attention world-wide.
