ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The main theme of my series of works was constructed with my unique feelings and independent forms. It was not any clear purpose or ideas which brought me around on pictures but my subconsciousness and instincts, until a certain state of symmetry/equilibrium is achieved on pictures. While I am unclear about what exactly it is, nor when it is achieved, I utilized this simple yet strong sense of equilibrium in my creative works. I believe that painting is a continual process of self reflection and experience that brings one to his own self. My paints and colors carry me to every spots on my works, which may not have a certain topic nor end, but a flow. Pure painting using my instinct, power, spirit and body is my belief. My works are a certain result of the summary of my life experience and art of painting. When technology evolves to a level where we can relive everything in no time, we may no longer need painting as a tool to present important incidents in the world.

I am Chan Sai Ho, a Hong Konger majoring in oil painting in Canberra Art Academy in Australia. By coincidence I came across the works of Jackson Pollock, which inspired my interest in arts. The great artists of American Abstract Expressionism affected me a lot. Wide spacing of pictures, powerful brushwork, strong colors and emphasis of individualism all became the main directions of my works. My effort on art works continued after being back in Hong Kong by spending my leisure on my works, also an external curriculum of relevant topics in university. I use basic visual language to create pure abstract works and reflect on the values and natures of painting in modern media of art creation. I am now a free artist who is paying hard effort on my art works, as well as my mortgage.
