This painting was inspired by this little boy swimming near his home on Bazaruto Island, off the coast of Southern Mozambique. What I loved was the look on his face, and the way the sun shone through his eyelashes, creating beautifully shaped shadows as he enjoys his swim in the warm water.

Julie is a Cape Town based artist who loves reflecting the beauty of African women and children in her large oil paintings. She draws her inspiration from something she sees in her models whether it's their humility, warmth, fullness of life or wisdom, she then transfers this emotion onto her canvases. Julie did her Fine Arts degree at Pietermaritzburg University but then worked in the IT sector for several years as a project manager. After moving to Cape Town in 2010, she reconnected with her love of painting. She enjoys using wide brushes and her palette knife to add accents and character to her paintings. Julie is a member of the South African Artists Association and has exhibited her works at the AVA Gallery, Kirstenbosch Gallery, Studio Art Gallery and Youngblood Gallery with her paintings now hanging in people’s homes in India, Canada, England and a number of beautiful homes in South Africa.
