Melbourne Australia, 1977Now living and working in Los AngelesJoshua M. Rosenthal was born in Melbourne, Australia.Josh was surrounded by the familys significant Australian art collection which included such artist's as John Perceval, Charles Blackman, Fred Williams, Brett Whitely, Roy DeMaistre among others, all who left an impressionable influence on him. Joshua took up painting at age 13 against the backdrop of an increasingly fragmented and dysfunctional home. The sense of deep isolation Josh felt from this became his focus and oil and canvas became his most powerful means of expression. Joshua began his art education and Wesley College in Melbourne where he was distinguished with the Art Award for Excellence and graduated with the highest mark in the state in art. As a consequence he was invited to exhibit in Australia's national public galleries (National Gallery of Victoria and the New South Wales Gallery) as part of a touring show. He went on to a degree at the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in Sydney. Joshua is greatly influenced by artists from Francis Bacon, RJ Kitaj to Andy Warhol as well as the German expressionists and the Dada movement. Joshua moved to Los Angeles in 2005 and has since showed at the Venice Art Walk, the Venice Council "Almost Famous" show as well as "Art Express" curated by Erin Mackay and Sotheby's International in Washington DC. Josh has recently shown at Lurie Galleries, Beverly Hills California and his works have featured on the sets of the highest rated TV shows including Ramseys Kitchen for FOX.
