A glowing blue dripping paint effect over a tight red 'fingerprint' pattern. This is an example of Photo Luminism: static points of light captured in about a second in a single exposure entirely in-camera. No creative post additions. This piece is available in sizes from 24x16" to 96x48". Signed l...

I was born in England to a very creative family and was encouraged to take up photography at a very early age. This led to a fascination for all things creative and eventually led to a long and successful career in music for film in Hollywood. 70 feature films later, I returned to the visual arts and developed a method involving long exposure and movement that I call Photo Luminism. This is a complex technique utilizing specially constructed ‘lightscapes', and movement of various elements of the camera during a slightly extended short exposure. Over time, in an attempt to keep my work fresh and interesting, I have applied the same techniques to natural light and physical objects to create other worldly scenarios. My 'Trees Revered' series is an example. The backgrounds in motion are created by first identifying an area of suitable colours and textures that I could use to make a landscape in which to place the trees I have found are then carefully superimposed. “Firefly Tree,” the first I created, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the print category by the juror of the Transformations exhibition at the PA Center for Photography. The Surreal series combines elements of night Photo Luminism characters with real life landscapes and people, producing an apparent alternate universe. I wouldn't want anyone to think I don't enjoy photographing traditional imagery, so you will find many in the representational gallery on my website. I prefer to print onto brushed aluminum and fine art archival papers. The aluminum is a refractive surface that allows ambient light to reflect back through the richly colored inks of the Photo Luminism images, giving an incredible sense of depth and luminescence. Conversely, the fine art papers produce incredibly rich blacks and saturated colors that pop in a totally different way. Signed, small limited editions are available in 4 sizes from 24"x16" to 96"x48". An unexpected offshoot of this Photo Luminism technique has been the opportunity to enter a series of those photographs into a contest with a view to being made into a sculpture. Oddly enough I'd never had any personal interest in sculpture but suddenly here was something that intrigued me! So I was exceptionally proud that my entry, Exhibitionist, resulted in being a popular winner.
