Gabor Gasztonyi BA, MPA A professional photographer, author and filmmaker, Gabor Gasztonyi lives in New Westminster with his wife, artist Judith Copland. His book “A Room in the City”, published by Anvil Press in 2010 with a foreword by Dr. Gabor Mate, was a finalist for the George Ryga Award for Social Justice in Literature and the Alcuin Award for book Design. The book is a photographic journey in the hotel rooms of the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver. Gabor has had exhibits of his photographic work in Canada and Europe. In 2006 he was awarded the Nikon Prize for photojournalism in BC, the Sony Press Award in 2015 from the Professional Photographers of Canada, and the Award of Excellence, Society of Canadian Artists, Montreal. In 2016 he won the Nikon Press Award for a second time at the Professional Photographers National Exhibition in Niagara Falls. He won this prestigious award again in 2017 at the National Exhibition in Ottawa. He has also lectured at Emily College University. Recent exhibitions have included Views from the South Bank II at the Surrey Art Gallery in 2015, featuring photographs of Sudanese immigrants to Canada, and two selected solo exhibits at the Capture Photography Festival in Vancouver. In June 2016, his work was featured at the Alfred Fried Photographic Exhibition in Paris at UNESCO Headquarters. His most recent exhibition was Hamlin’s Women in 2022 at the Gabor Gasztonyi Gallery in New Westminster BC. In 2016, 2017 2019, and 2021 Gabor represented Canada in photojournalism in the WPC World Photographic Cup. His documentary film, No Way Out, was nominated in five categories at the London International Filmmakers Festival 2018. The film won the best cinematography at the Harlem Film Festival in New York in 2019. In 2018 Gabor received the Bernie Legge Arts and Cultural Award for the City of New Westminster. His work is in the permanent collection of the Surrey Art Gallery. A member of the Professional Photographers of Canada, he received his Master of Photographic Arts Degree Website:
