The tapering stem of an early summer squash appears to caress fresh cherries in this photo scan where no camera, no negative, no digital intervention was used. The equipment a scanner and a laptop computer. The scanner's point source of light, like the sun, reveals every detail that is on the glass but any details not flat on the glass are thrown into soft focus, much like the results attained with a view camera to control depth of field. This is one in a series of plants, fruits, and vegetables that I call "humble" the vegetation of every day.
