Light Waves and Dark Currents No.3 - Limited Edition of 8 Print

I create photographs in the dark. While technically tricky and daunting, pushing myself outside of my comfort zone is a personal challenge. This venture illuminated a love for the isolation of the night, finding the perfect view to record an unpredictable event. Each project is a poetic study of movement. The light trails I record are evidence of motion, preserved in light, transported through mechanisms not seen by the naked eye. The results are close to paintings created by nature itself. I work using medium format cameras, often holding the shutter open by cable for 45-minute exposures. Watching the environment change around me, and battling the elements, can sometimes enhance the process. All variables must be considered, including time of year, weather, moon phase and position, and anticipating flexibility for random events. My work on water (Light Waves) and in the sky (Aviation Vectors) has earned awards and accolades by news periodicals, popular magazines, commissions and being awarded in the Communication Arts Awards, Environmental Photographer of the Year, and featured in National Geographic Online.
