WHO IS DENISE SOLAY? Her first passion was ballet. She lived it. She loved it. It was her dream. It became her reality, first, with The Royal Ballet in London, later, with great ballet companies in New York and then on the Broadway stage. Her second passion was, and still is, travel. Nothing can compete with the romance, mystery and excitement of places such as Algeria, Morocco, Burma, Ethiopia, Mauritania, Syria, Yemen, Java, Thailand, Sri Lanka, India and Nepal - just a few of the exotic visa stamps that fill her well worn passports. During these trips collecting rare pieces to be used in her jewelry design business of contemporary jewelry with “Hints of History”, she developed a discerning eye by taking pictures of these exotic people and places. Her powerful photographs convey a deep understanding of the lifestyles and mores of these cultures and seem to transport her subjects across time and oceans into our consciousness. As fewer and fewer people were still wearing their traditional dress and were beginning to all dress the same... t-shirts, jeans, etc… she realized that the walls that she walked past every day, were even more interesting and evocative of the local history. Their textures, colors and time evolved layers created amazing abstract images. To date, she has captured thousands of fabulous abstract wall images from around the world for her canvas wall art collection, WALLS ON WALLS.
