WL Chiu was born and raised in Hong Kong. After working for ten years as a graphic designer, she returned to the camera and began walking the city with fresh eyes. Her photographs linger on quiet corners, closed shopfronts and fading facades, following an inner, intuitive map rather than famous landmarks. Chiu enjoys getting lost in unfamiliar streets and moments, letting colour, shadow and small details lead the way. Her work traces the textures of a changing Hong Kong and the feeling of being pleasantly lost in time and place. One of the photographers I deeply admire is Saul Leiter, especially for his subtle use of colour and atmosphere.
