ABOUT THE ARTWORK

"The Bull" is a powerful image. This photograph, created on black-and-white film using a Mamiya II 6x7 camera, carries a deeply personal and poignant narrative. It reflects on the lasting impact of childhood bullying, a traumatic experience that left emotional scars and profoundly influenced the artist's self-perception. At the age of 12, the subject underwent circumcision for medical reasons, a procedure that led to severe bullying by classmates. Despite being under the care of a teacher who had found refuge in England after fleeing Nazi Germany before World War II, the bullying went unnoticed, leaving deep emotional wounds. The bullying, predominantly from the girls in the class, occurred during a critical period in the subject's development, just as he was beginning to notice the opposite sex. These experiences fostered a belief that he was unworthy and unattractive, making it difficult to imagine a romantic relationship. Over time, however, the subject’s life took a positive turn, yet the memories of the past continued to resurface, prompting the artist to confront and challenge them through his art. "The Christian" is a poignant reminder of the importance of self-acceptance and self-love. It embodies the artist's Christian faith, highlighting the beauty of the human form as a divine creation and a work of art in itself. It serves as a declaration that one's worth is not determined by external judgments but by a profound sense of self and spirituality. This work is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the transformative power of self-acceptance and self-expression through art.

I’m a multidisciplinary artist and documentary photographer, based between Italy and London. My journey into photography was anything but conventional. With a background in Economics and a career in the corporate world in Italy, my life took a turn when I stumbled upon an old 35mm Praktica camera on a London street. That moment marked the beginning of a transformation from the business world to the realm of art. I immersed myself in the study of photography, completing a certificate in Photographic Professional Practice at St Martin's College of Art, followed by a full-time course in analogue photography and darkroom printing. My early career in photography saw me working as a freelance press photographer, where I spent three years capturing the fleeting moments of celebrity culture as a paparazzo. But my true passion lies in documenting the deeper stories of human connection. Since 2013, I’ve been focusing on themes like sexuality, gender equality, love, abuse, prejudice, mental health, and illness—issues that challenge and transform us. My work is driven by a deep curiosity about people, and I often engage in conversations with strangers, either online or on the street, to uncover their stories. Photography, for me, is not just about the image—it’s a process of self-discovery and an opportunity to connect with others on a profound level. I see photography as a therapeutic medium, a live performance where both the artist and the subject are revealed in the moment of connection. The camera becomes an extension of my own vulnerability, and in that instant, the observer becomes the observed. It’s a space where art and life intertwine, and I am as much a part of the story as those I photograph. In 2018, I became part of Action Hybride. I’ve had the privilege of exhibiting my work in cities like London, Paris, Berlin, Brussels, Rome, Brindisi, and Taranto. Through my art, I explore what it means to be human, to be vulnerable, and to find truth in the stories we share.
