Joost Hogervorst is not an artist. Or perhaps he is but he claims to be a creative Dutchman. That should be enough he thinks. Let the artworks tell the story. Joost really tries to be a bit consistent concerning his art styles but he failes again and again. No matter how he tries, he can’t help it he says. He has far too many styles. His mind jumps from idea to idea and styles and lines appear just like that. So can he be a serious artist? Mwah, his creative freedom overrules that question he thinks. Joost was born and raised near a Dutch river called the Zaan. The Zaan region is well know for it’s windmills, early industry, whales, green wooden houses and the Zaanse schans. It’s only separated from Amsterdam by the North Sea Canal. He studied business in Amsterdam and attended the Graphic school there, just like his grandfather did. He earned his money with the first. The second, the drawing, the creating is his oxygen. He could stop working for companies and advertising agencies and now works as a full time artist (creative he says). Ways of working 1.Pen and pencil on paper. Scan of his own (line) drawings which he edits digitally. 2.Hand made mixed media. 3. Photographs – He shoots a lot of pictures and edits them digitally (a bit or completely). 4. Photoshop to make images from stretch. 5. A bit of Ai. Combined with digital and scanned artwork. 6. A mix of all. For example the prints of his own work that he attacks by hand.
