About The Artwork

I love visiting the Salton Sea. It is such a strange beautiful wasteland. Some of the photography used in this piece was shot there. When I think of inland desert "seas" I think of the little brine shrimp "sea monkeys" I had when I was a kid. They are fascinating. For one they can see more colors than we do. For me this is a portrait of a sea monkey kind of creature. I'm guessing it must be the mayor of the Salton Sea. It is kind of creepy to me in a delightful way. Because everything is rusty at the salton sea I included some. This image transfer technique is labor intensive. You have to rub all of the paper off to reveal the ink stuck to it. You get everything wet to help and I chose a rusty table to do the work. I let it stain the mulberry paper to add to the strange relic quality of the image. For me it looks like an artifact from another world and it is! It's from the Salton Sea. I usually sign all of my work on the back so it doesn't distract from the piece. If anyone requests I sign on the front I am open to it. M8re

Like Picasso, de Kooning, and others my art is informed by the science of my time. I am endlessly curious about the nature of our consciousness and I am fascinated by the new mind research of Donald Hoffman and others who are mapping how we conceptualize reality. In short I wonder what true reality is before it is conceptualized by our modern brain. What is it like before memory? If time is not real what does it look like for past, present and future to coexist? My art explores that. I hope you enjoy it. Please feel free to ask me anything. You can learn much more about me on my website. Thank you for looking!
