About The Artwork

I wanted to create a piece that makes people turn around because of the colour. Therefore I chose yellow which often is just used as a background colour or foundation. I wanted to change that and show that yellow is strong, delicate and effective when it is allowed to take space.

My works are inspired by a very personal perception of situations. I create live sized figures in monochrome colours to reduce myself to what counts and what is necessary. The line is the most important carrier of information and I use my cutting tools for the woodcuts the same way I would use a pencil. When talking about the practical background I stress that I am inspired by sculpturing and I compare woodcut the way I do it as THE printing technique which is closest to three-dimensional art. The subject matter starts from the idea of a knot, where two parts can be combined to a construct in endless ways. The area of the wood for that reason is mostly constant - I also reduce myself in this sense to a defined unit.
