On the way home, the city splits into two versions of itself. One is the romantic Saigon preserved in the collective imagination—grainy film-noir frames of old photographs, drifting áo dài silhouettes, a haze that feels almost like smoke. Hoàng-Đan Phạm (Gối) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. With a background in graphic design and applied arts, her practice moves across image, object, and contemporary production methods, operating beyond medium-specific boundaries. Working with digital processes, printed matter, and mixed materials, she does not treat narrative as something to be illustrated, but as something embedded within visual structure, material choice, and surface. Composition, colour, and surface are not supporting elements but the work itself. Her approach reflects a contemporary condition shaped by circulation, reproduction, and online presence, where images exist fluidly between art, design, and commodity. Independent from traditional gallery structures, Gối develops works that favour hybrid formats and material adaptability over singular, fixed forms. Her practice resists categorisation, focusing instead on how contemporary materials and systems shape visual experience today. She is the founder of Hand-Fetish-Projects® (hfprojects.art).
