Irina Ratner graduated from the Art Institute in Moscow. She worked as a stage designer and costume designer in the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard. She worked as a costume designer and author of dolls for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, as well as the International Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow, costume designer for cabaret theaters, circus and various theater groups, a freelance illustrator.
