Clarke’s Fertility Dolls are extraordinary. Unified, like a museum collection, by means of careful presentation, their disparity is astounding. They are made from the widest range of materials, mostly discarded and found again by the artist – from plant roots and flotsam to weathered plastics. ...

Lorraine Clarke's work, taking multiple forms, from large installations to small finely crafted collections, incorporating found and made objects, text, animation and sound, is infused with research into rites and traditions, belief systems, religion, anthropology, aspects of the medical world and the human condition. Following her degrees in Fine Art and Art & Psychopathology, visual artist Lorraine Clarke lived and worked in Italy for 19 years. Returning to the UK, she founded Euroart Studios (& Gallery) in London in 2002. As Art Director (Euroart) she has created and curated numerous exhibitions including "Medical Edge", as well as creating and presenting the "1st Euroart Live Festival". Lorraine has exhibited widely ("The Development of Identity", Science Museum's Dana Centre, London 2011; "Time", WW Gallery, London 2010; "Storm", Whitechapel Gallery, London 2009; "Travelling Light", London/Venice Biennale, WW Gallery/Fondamenta Bragadin 2009; "EdgeCentrics", Williamson Tunnels Heritage Centre, Liverpool, Biennial Independants 2008; "Boite en Valise", Paris 2008; "Blueprints II", museumMan, Berlin 2006; "Anywhere in the World- David Medalla's London", ICA, London 2005). Since 2002 she has created a large body of work expressing her ongoing interest into the link between Magic, Medicine & Religion - from the primitive era to the modern day, from the knowledge of the ancient Wise Women to contemporary ethical concerns - addressing issues common to every culture and age such as identity, fertility, faith, sexuality and mortality. Her current practise is a result of inspiration derived from these areas of her research, from the tremendous impact of biotechnology, such as organ harvesting and cloning, to the awesome complexity of the psyche - it is an excavation of the human being, a journey into the deepest layers of the mind and body, evoking the past as well as exploring the contemporary, while seeking to subject the viewer to the beauty and vulnerability of their own physicality. Her work employs the widest range of materials(from plant roots & flotsam to weathered plastics, from bone to metal, glass to textiles), and processes (sculpting & constructing, drawing, painting, text, woodwork, metalwork, sewing, binding and a collage process resembling enamelling or glazed ceramic).
