About The Artwork
Puk & I wanted to make an impressive art piece. Not only the size but also the nature and the materials used were of interest. Now the elephant is in itself a very special appearance so it required an artistic addition. We have taken back to the ancient art of folding from China: the origami. This art form emerged not long after the discovery of paper (100 AD). Instead of paper, We have used stainless steel and added a layer of gold on it. The gold is of the highest quality and is also used for example in the Vatican and is 23.75 carats. It can therefore be outside but also inside on the wall or on a windowsill. The design has cachet. The golden elephant has dynamism, arouses curiosity and is impressive. The sleek lines fit in a modern setting and the gold gives the necessary style in a classic environment. My father Dick van Wijk graduated at the art academy in 1971.
