About The Artwork

Comrade (Husarz) was completed on December 19, 2021. Work on it from the moment of its conception lasted almost three years, although the very idea of creating Comrade - Hussar appeared much earlier ... Originally it was supposed to be a knight in full gear on a charging horse, but a lot of similar works can be found in both historical and contemporary art . My concept changed when I found a catalog of works by a ceramics artist at a photographer's friend who created exotic warriors dressed only from the waist down. I realized that in our native culture there is no such kind of work and that warriors or knights are always clad in armor. This is how the idea of materializing the vision of a mighty man, a Hussar companion, dressed in tight pants fastened with bumps and boots from the beginning of the 16th century with the attribute of a "batorówka" saber in his hand, was born. The intriguing eye sockets of the Companion, although physically empty, do not make such an impression from a distance. Lovers of Slavic beliefs should think of Kraboszki :-) and lovers of antiquity - Greek theatrical masks. I leave the rest of the interpretation of the sculpture to your imagination ...
