ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Artwork was created under the inspiration of the medieval sacred art of alchemy and mysticism. The sculpture is made in the form of a still life, which tells us an ancient legend about the creation of the world. The skull on the platter symbolizes the skull of Adam, the first man created by God. However, contrary to the traditional legend about the eaten apple, two apples lie next to it, symbolizing the struggle between good and evil. At the same time, both apples are equally golden and, having no differences, thus do not make it possible to determine which of them is good and which is evil. In this artwork, I reflect on whether the act of Adam can be considered a sin? After all, having eaten an apple, he gained wisdom, for which he was expelled from paradise. In this case, can ignorance be considered a sign of a person worthy of being in paradise? The sculptural composition consists of a skull, two apples and a dish on which they lie. All elements are made of wood and covered with various tonings with the effect of aging. The apples are covered with gold enamel and have a sheen when exposed to light.
