I am fascinated by the idea of translating the human condition. I use a variety of approaches and paint applications, to ultimately create a narrative. My passion for realist representation initially stemmed from studying the works of Gerhard Richter and Chuck Close. But in 2015 my love for Baroque painting took me to the Charles H Cecil Studios in Florence. I have since returned to this tradition on a part-time basis at the Sarum Studio in Salisbury, where I continue working from life, using the sight-size method under the instruction of Nicholas Beer. The instruction I have there serves as a basis for much of my thinking when I consider technical aspects of painting.
For an in-depth focus on anatomy, I spent the summer of 2018 at the New York Academy of Art for a residency. I am based in London primarily, and I have exhibited in group shows in London and New York.
